Several years ago, we discovered just how useful a portable car refrigerator can be. While they’re an obvious fit for road trips and camping, we’ve found them just as valuable during hotel stays. Instead of hoping the room includes a mini fridge, you can always count on having a place to store drinks, snacks, medications, or other items that need to stay cold. The first portable refrigerator we reviewed even left puddles of condensation on the floor, but that was years ago. Since then, portable compressor refrigerators have come a long way, offering better insulation, smarter features, and more efficient cooling.

About the BODEGA T36 Portable Car Fridge
The BODEGA T36 is a 36-liter (38-quart) portable compressor refrigerator designed for use in vehicles, RVs, boats, and off-grid environments. Unlike traditional coolers that require ice to keep contents cold, the T36 uses a compressor-based cooling system that can refrigerate or freeze food and beverages without the need for ice. This not only helps maintain more consistent temperatures but also maximizes the available storage space.
One of the T36’s standout features is its dual-zone design, which allows each compartment to operate at an independent temperature. This makes it possible to use one side as a refrigerator while the other functions as a freezer, or to configure both compartments for refrigeration depending on your needs. If you need additional storage space for larger items, the removable divider lets you convert the interior into a single larger compartment.

The refrigerator offers a temperature range from -4°F to 68°F (-20°C to 20°C) and is powered by a high-efficiency compressor. It supports 12V DC, 24V DC, and 100-240V AC power, making it suitable for everything from daily commuting and road trips to camping and home use. For vehicle owners, the built-in three-level battery protection system helps prevent excessive battery drain by automatically monitoring voltage levels.
Additional features include Bluetooth connectivity for remote monitoring and temperature adjustments through the BODEGA mobile app, an integrated LED interior light for improved visibility in low-light conditions, Eco and Max cooling modes for balancing energy efficiency with cooling performance, and a USB charging port for powering small mobile devices. With its compact footprint, relatively lightweight design, and flexible cooling options, the T36 is designed to provide reliable cold storage wherever your travels take you.

User Experience
Getting the BODEGA T36 up and running couldn’t have been much easier. There was no assembly required, and everything needed to get started was neatly packed inside the refrigerator. The AC and DC power cables, along with the user manual, were stored in a small cardboard box nestled inside the cooler. While this keeps everything organized during shipping, I found myself wishing there was a dedicated place to store those accessories after unboxing. A built-in storage pocket, carrying pouch, or even a clip-on accessory bag would make it easier to keep the cables and manual with the refrigerator when it’s not in use.
I’ve had the BODEGA T36 for a while now and used it for hotel stays, this summer we’ve used it for cookouts and days by the pool. It’s been fantastic.

Once connected to power, the T36 immediately began cooling. For my initial test, both compartments started at approximately 68°F. I configured one compartment as a refrigerator at 39°F and the other as a freezer at 19°F. It took about an hour for both compartments to reach their target temperatures, which I found to be reasonable considering the refrigerator was cooling from room temperature. Throughout the process, the compressor remained relatively quiet and never became distracting while running. Once they reached their target temperatures, the refrigerator maintained them consistently throughout the remainder of my testing.

The onboard control panel is intuitive and provides access to all of the refrigerator’s primary functions, including temperature adjustments, cooling modes, and battery protection settings. That means you never have to rely on a smartphone to operate the unit. That said, I found the companion app to be a convenient addition, especially when I wanted to check temperatures or make adjustments without walking over to the cooler.

One thing worth mentioning is the app setup. The printed manual included with my review unit correctly directed me to download the Car Fridge Freezer app. However, older versions of the T36 manual available online reference the QZSmart app instead. Initially, I downloaded QZSmart and couldn’t get the refrigerator to connect. After switching to the Car Fridge Freezer app listed in the printed manual, the refrigerator was detected immediately and paired without any issues. If you run into connection problems, it’s worth checking which app your specific unit recommends before spending time troubleshooting.

The T36 strikes a nice balance between storage capacity and portability. At 36 liters, it offers enough room for groceries, drinks, or camping essentials without becoming overly bulky. Even when loaded, it never felt too heavy for me to lift when necessary. For longer distances, the built-in wheels rolled smoothly across hard surfaces and even performed well on grass. I also appreciated the telescoping handle, particularly the handle on the control-panel side, which extends farther from the body of the refrigerator. That extra clearance makes it much more comfortable to pull behind you.
Another pleasant surprise was the lack of condensation. During my indoor testing, I never noticed the exterior developing moisture or “sweating,” even while one compartment was operating as a freezer. Since my testing took place indoors, I can’t say whether the same would hold true during a hot, humid camping trip. However, based on my experience so far, the insulation appears to do an excellent job of preventing condensation from forming on the exterior.

Conclusion
The BODEGA T36 Portable Car Fridge is an excellent example of how far portable compressor refrigerators have come over the past several years. Its dual-zone design offers the flexibility to refrigerate and freeze items simultaneously, while the compact size makes it easy to transport without sacrificing too much storage space. I especially appreciated the quiet operation, reliable cooling performance, and the convenience of controlling the refrigerator from either the onboard controls or the companion app.
Whether you’re heading out on a camping trip, taking a long road trip, spending time overlanding, or simply want a dependable refrigerator for hotel stays, the BODEGA T36 delivers a combination of performance, portability, and convenience that makes it easy to recommend.
